New roofing standard
Hurricane Desmond has just shown that the 'doom and gloom' merchants may have a point. Storms in the UK are getting worse and, of course, as nearly all of them blow in across the Atlantic, here in Wales we bear the brunt of them.
The latest British Standard (BS 5534) sets out required standards of workmanship for new roofs and states that every single lap tile must now be mechanically fixed. Mortar bedding is no longer permitted.
Make sure you engage a roofing contractor that understands the current building regulations and guarantees to work to them.
The British Standard sets out the design criteria for new roofs based on anticipated maximum wind speeds across the UK.
