Storm Arwen

 Storm Arwen is the first big storm of the 2021-22 season.

Warm Roofs

 Many flat roofs have been constructed with little or no thermal insulation. Not only does this mean a higher heating bill to keep the room(s) warm but also there may be an accumulation of moisture within the roof structure that can lead to rotting of the structural timbers, and even poorer thermal insulation if the insulation becomes wet.

The solution is to retain as much of the existing structure as possible (assuming no rot) and add extra insulation, a vapour barrier and a new top weather-proof surface.

Using modern rigid insulation foam extra thermal insulation can be added that exceeds current UK Building Regulation requirements.

Conservatory re-roofing

True cost of a "cheap" job

The true cost of having someone work on your roof "on the cheap".

A client in Abergele called us in to fit new ridge tiles on the roof of their house and also to make good a repair carried out recently by another local roofer.

Instead of fixing the new dry verge components properly these "cowboy" roofers used silicone sealant to glue the sections in position.

The result: the whole lot peeled away in the first storm.

Unlike other types of property repair work, it is difficult for you to keep an eye on the quality of workmanship on your your roof.  You have to trust that the roofing company and its operatives know what they are doing and are prepared to do a proper job.

Current Building Regulations require that on new roofs ridge tiles should be mechanically fixed and not just bedded in mortar.
We go one better and mechanically fix ridge tiles as part of a roof repair.  This is better than the regulations require.

Choose your roofing contractor with care

With roofs it is often a case of "out of site, out of mind".  The trouble is when a roofer comes along he says he can fix your roof - maybe at a good cheap price - you don't know what you are getting.  You can't go on the roof yourself and inspect the work.

The pictures below show one such incident.  A local roofer offered to install a new roof on a property in Llandudno Junction but as the work progressed the householder became suspicious of the quality of the work.

Via FAIR TRADES they contacted us to take over the work and DO IT PROPERLY.

Work included re-fixing slates, new mechanically fixed ridge tiles, new leadwork, new rainwater goods.
